UAE Court Grants Divorce After Wife Accuses Husband of Black Magic

In a rare and dramatic ruling, the Ras Al Khaimah Court of First Instance (Personal Status) in the United Arab Emirates has granted a divorce to a 38-year-old woman who accused her husband of abuse, financial neglect, and practicing black magic.

The verdict, issued in late October 2025, ends a five-year marriage filled with emotional and financial turmoil.

💔 The Marriage and the Legal Battle

According to court records, the wife — represented by Attorney Hanan Salem Al Shimili — filed for khula (wife-initiated divorce) and full custody of her four-year-old daughter.

The couple had married in Egypt in July 2020, with their union later certified in the UAE. Their daughter, now enrolled in a UAE school, has been living with her mother throughout the proceedings.

In her testimony, the woman accused her 37-year-old husband of infidelity and performing “immoral acts such as witchcraft and sorcery.” She said these acts caused severe psychological distress and created an unsafe home environment for her and their child.

⚖️ Evidence of Abuse and Neglect

The wife presented medical reports, digital messages, and financial documents to support her claims.

Case files revealed:

  • The husband physically assaulted her multiple times — one incident causing a verified knee injury.

  • He insulted her publicly and sent abusive WhatsApp messages.

  • Despite earning over AED 13,000 per month, he failed to support his family financially.

  • The wife covered all expenses — housing, education, and childcare — between 2022 and 2025.

The husband reportedly only visited his family on weekends and ignored most financial responsibilities.

🏛 Court Findings and Ruling

After reviewing the evidence, judges concluded that reconciliation was impossible. The court ruled that the husband had caused emotional and material harm, violating Article 133 (1.2) of Federal Decree-Law No. 42 of 2022 — which obligates husbands to provide for their spouses and children.

👩‍👧 Custody and Financial Compensation

The court granted the mother full custody of her daughter and ordered the father to cover all major expenses, including:

  • AED 20,000/year for housing (including utilities and internet)

  • AED 7,000/month for domestic help and nanny

  • AED 700/month in child support

  • AED 1,000/year for school uniforms

  • AED 500/year for Eid allowances

  • AED 300/month for transportation

  • Full tuition fees for school education

The payments will continue as long as the child remains under her mother’s care.
The court also authorized the mother to relocate for education or medical reasons and ordered the husband to hand over all official documents, including the child’s passport and vaccination record.

🌍 A Landmark Ruling for Women’s Rights in the UAE

Legal experts have hailed the judgment as an important precedent for protecting women from domestic abuse and occult-related psychological harm. The case also highlights the UAE judiciary’s focus on family welfare and child protection within Islamic and civil law frameworks.
